Let me start this off with this: if you have this book, get a glass of wine and a box of tissues because you're going to need them. I don't give books five stars lightly, they have to speak to me and this book definitely struck a nerve. Ethan has just lost his brother to cancer and sets out to discover what the Last Resort is. He vows to uncover how they scam people all while pretending to care that the residents are dying. He doesn't factor in Sam. Samantha is the owner of Last Resort and lost both of her parents to cancer, so she started the Last Resort to help those who want to die without it affecting their families to do so. With her genetic history, she doesn't plan on finding and falling in love , but she does. When Ethan and Sam meet, they are drawn to each other and can't explain why. When Ethan finally admits to Sam why he pretended to need the work to get close to her, he almost shatters their bond. But Sam is holding onto her own secrets and in the end makes the ultimate sacrifice.
Ethan starts off cold and standoffish. He raised his brother and in taking over the business world, falls out of contact with him. When he reappears, it's to tell Ethan he is dying and is going somewhere to die alone. Ethan is devastated but understands and life moves on. It's when he gets notice of his brothers death and info about where he was that Ethan comes up with his plan. You can't help but fall in love with Sam. She loves and mourns her residents as if they are her relatives and each one chips away a piece of her heart. You really feel everything Sam feels. When Sam and Ethan fall in love, they both keep things away from each other until it's too late. Here's where the ugly cry comes in (get your tissues handy): Sam finds out some unexpected news and in finding out that news has to make a decision in regards to her health. A health Ethan knows nothing about. She takes any decision away from him because it's on her bucket list and ends up paying the ultimate sacrifice leaving Ethan to live life alone. These characters are so emotional, so relatable, you can't help but feel what they feel. 1-click this amazing love story today!
